“Transcendental Aestheticism” is the 24th piece in the Research on Tensions series, composed for solo piano by Arnaud Quercy. This multidisciplinary work blends sculpture, text, and music into a dynamic “triptych,” where each element supports and enriches the others. Inspired by Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason, specifically the “Transcendental Doctrine of Elements,” the work reflects on the nature of pure sensible intuition, where space and time are viewed as transcendental ideals.
The piano composition explores abstract harmonic tensions and rhythmic interactions, mirroring the philosophical themes of the work. Viewers are invited to shift their focus between the visual, musical, and textual components, creating a unified yet flexible experience.
Recorded in Paris on October 5, 2020.
