‘Twilight Play: The Quiet Hour’ Watercolor on paper, 21x29cm Arnaud Quercy Creations – AQC503 / 2023 In ‘Twilight Play: The Quiet Hour,’ I humbly present a watercolor tableau capturing the ephemeral tranquility of a kindergarten at day’s end. This piece is my visual homage to the lyrical world of Shel Silverstein’s poem ‘Where the Sidewalk Ends.’ My abstract composition, with its interplay of warm oranges, soothing purples, and grounding browns, seeks to evoke the soft and white grass, the crimson bright sun, and the peppermint wind from Silverstein’s cherished verses. This painting, inspired by the poem, invites viewers to a place beyond the black smoke and winding dark streets, into a realm where the imagination of children reigns—a place marked by their knowing. The work reflects the measured and slow walk towards the ineffable space where the sidewalk ends, where the rigid structures of both the physical and metaphorical cityscape give way to the boundless landscapes of dreams and dusk.
