This artwork is part of Arnaud Quercy’s synesthetic collection, where he explores the intersection of color and music through the circle of fifths. The geometric shapes and layered tones reflect the structured yet expressive qualities of musical harmony, providing a visual interpretation of auditory beauty.
In this exploration of the D Major chord, Arnaud assigns specific colors to its triads: D = Orange, A = Yellow-Orange, and F# = Grey-Blue. At this early stage of his research, F# oscillated between green and grey-blue; for this piece, grey-blue was chosen.
Interestingly, as his work evolved, green became more firmly associated with F#, making this piece a unique snapshot of his artistic and synesthetic journey. It highlights how colors shift in context, influenced by the broader interplay of tones in musical compositions.
Inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach’s Concerto in D Major, BWV 972, the painting bridges sound and sight, offering a harmonious synthesis of sensory experiences that invites viewers to perceive music in a new and vivid way.
